PROFILE
Koichiro Oka is a Professor in the Faculty of Sport Sciences at Waseda University in Japan. His research specialty is health and behavioral sciences/behavioral epidemiology. His research focuses on identifying the role of sedentary behavior and physical activity in the prevention and management of chronic diseases. Especially, his research relates to examining the health consequences and environmental determinates of sedentary behavior and physical inactivity. This involves large scale prospective observational studies and field-based intervention trials. He has published about 200 peer-reviewed papers including publications in high impact journals such as Nature Reviews Cardiology, British Journal of Sports Medicine, International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity. He is currently the President of the Japanese Society of Exercise Epidemiology, and also serves as a Board of Directors in the Japanese Society of Health Education and Promotion.
